The Police Department enforces animal control regulations. The department offers programs to educate residents regarding responsible pet ownership, provides for the sanitary, safe, and humane housing for impounded animals and enforces animal control ordinances relating to the leash law, scoop law, nuisance-barking, vicious animals, and cruelty to animals.
Pennsylvania Dog Law Act 225 states that all dogs must be under control. This means that when your dog is not on your property, it must be under direct control of you or a handler. The best way to control your dog is with a leash. Remember, dogs are personal property. The owner or owners are responsible for any damage caused by their dog while it is running-at-large. Violations could result in a maximum fine of $300.00. Third and subsequent offenses are misdemeanor violations.
Owners of barking dogs that are causing a nuisance can be fined for violating the Townhip’s ordinance on Disturbing the Peace (Ordinance 126).
Please contact the Police Department at 610-279-9033 with questions on animal control or concerns about possible violations.
