202 Widening Project

PennDOT’s long anticipated plan to widen Route 202 in Whitpain Township will move ahead in 2017. The initial stage of construction will improve the stretch of Route 202 between Township Line Road (border between Whitpain and East Norriton) and Morris Road. This is the most congested segment of 202 in Whitpain Township.

PennDOT will put this section of the project out for bid in 2017 and construction is slated to begin later that same year. The project will take two years to complete, and will wrap-up in 2019. The widening project will create 5 lanes of curbed roadway, two northbound and two southbound, and a turning lane in the middle of the roadway. A five foot bike lane and sidewalks for pedestrian access will be installed.  Additional improvements will be made at key intersections like 202 and 73 to allow for improved turning capacity.

PennDOT anticipates that the remaining portion of 202 in Whitpain, from Morris Rd. northward to the Lower Gwynedd border, should be under construction in 2019.
