Members of the Board of Supervisors discussed a proposed community center at Tuesday’s Board meeting.
A community center/indoor recreational space was identified as a need in the 2021 Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Trails Master Plan. Funding, however, did not become available until the Township received an extremely generous $10 million donation last year specifically for a community center.
So far, the Township has selected a team of consultants led by Phillips & Donovan Architects to help gather public input, ensure that an appropriate location is selected, and design concept plans and ultimately construction plans for the center.
In the fall, the team of consultants will begin hosting public meetings and seeking feedback from the community. Consultants have already spoken with a few potential user groups including: Whitpain Parks and Recreation Department, Whitpain Recreation Association, Scouts, WissLax; WissCheer, and the Ambler Whitpain Trojans.
Future issues of the Wire will have more information on future public meetings and more ways to offer community input.
