The community is invited to celebrate the grand opening of the new artificial turf fields at Centre Square Park on Saturday, October 5 at 10 a.m.
The Whitpain Recreation Association will host soccer and field hockey games throughout the day and the snack stand will be open. Kona Ice will also be at the event along with a DJ and dunk tank.
Earlier this year, the Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted an ordinance to issue bonds to advance several open space and infrastructure improvements, including the turf fields at Centre Square Park.
Other open space projects from the bond issuance will fund an inclusive playground at Centre Square Park and a trail along the PECO right-of-way from Route 202 to Wentz Road. Infrastructure projects include funding to improve the Yost Road Bridge, various upgrades to sewer infrastructure, and improvements to the Township Building including the installation of a fire sprinkler system.
Adding turf fields to Centre Square Park will help make WRA a sustainable youth sports organization for a new generation of young athletes while addressing the recreation needs of community children at an economically affordable price for families.
