At the May 17 Board of Supervisors' meeting, the Board approved a pilot deer management program based on a recommendation from the Township's Deer and Wildlife Management Committee. Before making this recommendation, the committee gathered public input, analyzed deer management programs in other municipalities, and examined the rate of vehicular accidents caused by encounters with deer.
The goal of the program is to reduce the size of the deer population in Whitpain which would in turn reduce the number of vehicle accidents as well as tree damage caused by the deer.
This pilot program will allow 12 archery hunters to hunt on the Township owned portion of the Armentrout Preserve during the late archery season (Dec. 26 - Jan. 27). All archery hunters must possess a current PA hunting license and appropriate antlerless tags, follow all PA Game Commission laws, and pass an archery proficiency test before being approved.
For questions regarding the deer management program please contact Mike Richino, Director of Parks and Recreation at 610-277-2400 ext. 375 or mrichino@whitpaintownship org. Hunters can apply for this program beginning on October 16, 2023.
